I want to share a bit more about my blogging journ I want to share a bit more about my blogging journey so here are 5 things I’ve learned as a food blogger & photographer:

1. Just start. I waited a bit before starting my blog in 2015 because I thought I needed things to be set up a ‘certain’ way. Then I had a layover in the Minnesota airport for 7 hours and just decided that NOW was the time! So I made my blog live on that day in March 2015 & shot my first recipe with my brother that weekend.

2. Find your voice/niche. I struggled with this for my first couple of years, doing all sorts of recipes. Once I decided I really wanted to focus on simple & seasonal foods and gatherings, it helped me build my content & talk about it more easily.

3. Try different styles. I started photographing in a more light and bright style, and generally, I stick to that for the blog. BUT I love to challenge myself to think outside the box and experiment with different backgrounds or even photographing an entire eBook in a house. I find these challenges just help me to learn more & get better at my craft.

4. Ask for help. Google only got me so far BUT asking other bloggers or food photographers for help/advice along my journey has been amazing. The community is so wonderful! I’ve made some amazing connections just by reaching out.

5. Build a community. One of my fav things about blogging has been the community I’ve built via the blog/recipes. I love to hear when a recipe becomes someone’s fav dish or helps with a special occasion. In the end, this brings me the greatest amount of joy when the recipes/food I create brings others joy and helps them create delicious meals to share with family & friends.

Thank you for following along on this journey with me!

You knowwww I love a good cocktail and as we head You knowwww I love a good cocktail and as we head towards Springtime I want to celebrate warmer days ahead with this Lavender French 75 made with @empress1908gin ! Hand-crafted in British Columbia, I couldn’t think of a better gin to add to this cocktail. (Recipe below) #sponsored
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To me a French 75 is just perfect to cheers with BUT I’m shaking things up a bit by adding lavender bitters to complement the botanicals of the @empress1908gin . With the Empress Gin’s subtle earthy notes, the lavender works just beautifully to make a lovely Spring sip. Plus the gorgeous colour transforms from a vivid indigo blue to a more pink hue with the addition of the fresh lemon juice.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, let’s cheers to a more bright & beautiful season upon us!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
French 75 with lavender bitters
Ingredients:
1 ½  oz gin
¾ oz  freshly squeezed lemon juice
¾ oz simple syrup
2-3 dashes lavender bitters
Top with prosecco & a lemon twist
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Instructions:
Shake gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and lavender bitters over ice. Strain into a coupe or flute. Top with prosecco & garnish with a lemon twist and/or lavender sprig.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Tip: Need to make simple syrup? In a small saucepan combine ½ cup sugar and ½ cup water. Bring to a boil, stirring, until sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool.
