Ingredients

  • 8 ripe fresh figs, halved lengthwise
  • 3 tbsp liquid honey
  • 1 tbsp salted butter
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp orange juice
  • 1/2 tsp orange zest
  • Chopped pistachios or hazelnuts for garnish
  • Fresh thyme leaves or fresh minced rosemary garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350F. Like a medium-sized baking dish with parchment paper.
  • Halve the figs lengthwise and place cut side up in the parchment-lined baking dish.
  • In a small pot warm the honey, butter, orange juice, orange zest and cinnamon until butter is melted. Once the butter is melted, whisk everything together to combine.
  • Drizzle the honey mixture over top of all the figs, making sure the halves get a good coating.
  • Roast for 25-35 minutes or until the figs are quite soft and jammy. Let cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
Serve fig halves on Greek yogurt or mascarpone with a drizzle of the syrup from the baking dish, fresh minced rosemary or thyme, chopped pistachios and another drizzle of honey if desired.
  • Store fully cooled figs in the syrup from the pan in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Notes

  • Black mission figs are my favourite to use in this recipe.
  • If you want a good swap for honey, you can try maple syrup. The flavour will be slightly different but still super delish!
  • Delicious ways to enjoy these honey roasted figs
    • Enjoy for breakfast along with your favourite granola.
    • Add cooled jammy figs to a cheese board for a delicious bite.
    • Make a fig salad! Use the cooled figs in a delicious salad along with arugula, soft goat cheese, pecans and a balsamic vinegar dressing.
    • Top softened goat cheese, baked gruyere or baked brie with these jammy figs.
