Ingredients

  • 1 fresh baguette
  • butter
  • 1/4 cup fig jam
  • 10-12 slices granny smith apple
  • 6-8 slices prosciutto
  • 6-8 slices brie cheese
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Cut a baguette in half and then cut the half into 2 long sandwiches.
  • Spread a thin layer of butter on both sides of the baguette.
  • Spread a layer of fig jam on the bottom and top pieces of bread followed by 5-6 slices of apple, 3-4 slices of prosciutto and 3-4 thick slices of brie cheese. Season with a good pinch of salt and pepper and top with the remaining half of the baguette. Repeat to make a second sandwich.
  • Optional: If you want to grill this sandwich, see notes below.

Notes

  • If you can't find prosciutto a good-quality ham will work or roasted turkey.
  • Peppery arugula would be an absolutely delicious addition to this sandwich.
  • How can I make this into grilled cheese sandwiches? I would suggest using more of a sliced bread like sourdough bread or french bread. Butter the outside of the bread slices and then spread the fig jam on the inside of each slice of bread. Layer the rest of the ingredients 6-8 slices of apple, 3-4 slices of prosciutto and 3-4 thick slices of brie cheese and then top with the second slice of bread. Warm a frying pan over medium heat and place the sandwiches butter side down into the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and the cheese melts. If the bread is getting too dark, turn the heat down to medium-low heat.
