This brie sandwich recipe is one of my favorite sandwiches!

The combination of brie, salty prosciutto, sweet fig jam and a tart green apple make for the most outstanding sandwich!

Make it for a picnic during the summer or grill it as a grilled cheese during the cooler seasons.

This Summer I really leaned into making sandwiches for lunch again, they’re such easy recipes to make! It doesn’t take much to create a delicious, simple sandwich, especially when you put together super flavourful ingredients.

Why you’ll love this brie sandwich recipe

  • It’s versatile! Make it in the summer and wrap for a picnic OR make it in the fall into a divine grilled cheese sandwich.
  • You only need 6 simple ingredients to make this sandwich.
  • Sandwiches are a classic comfort food and this one is perfect for many seasons!

Ingredients needed to make this sandwich

French baguette: a baguette is my favourite type of bread to use for this sandwich because I like the crispiness of the outside and softness of the inside of the bread. But you could also slices of bread like sourdough or another crusty artisan bread of choice.

Brie cheese: creamy brie cheese goes delightfully with the sweet fig jam and crunchy apples.

Fig jam: fig jam or fig preserves work well as a sandwich layer.

Prosciutto: the salty prosciutto pairs wonderfully with all of the other sweet, creamy

Granny smith apples: crunchy, tart granny smith apple slices are key to the flavor combination in this sandwich.

Butter: buttered bread is the best canvas for this perfect sandwich.

Step by step process to make this brie sandwich recipe

Step 1: Cut a baguette in half and then cut into 2 long sandwiches.

Step 2:  Spread a thin layer of butter on both sides of the baguette.

Step 3: Spread a layer of fig jam on the bottom piece of bread followed by 6-8 slices of apple, 3-4 slices of prosciutto and a layer of brie cheese, 3-4 thick slices. Season with a good pinch of salt and pepper and top with the remaining half of the baguette. Repeat to make a second sandwich. Optional: If you want to grill this sandwich, use pieces of bread that are sliced instead like french bread or sourdough.

Expert tips to make this easy brie and prosciutto sandwich

  • Make sure to use a fresh baguette for the best quality sandwich.
  • This recipe makes 2 large sandwiches so you can always half the recipe to make one OR cut the sandwiches in half further to make four.
  • If you can’t find prosciutto a good-quality ham will work or roasted turkey.
  • Making a great sandwich is all about the layers and making sure each layer is seasoned too! Make sure to add a pinch of salt and pepper on the butter and brie cheese layer.
  • While I give you directions on how to layer this sandwich, you can truly do what suits your tastes best. So, if you like more or less of one ingredient or another, adjust as you see fit.

FAQ

Can I add salad greens to this sandwich?
YES! Peppery arugula would be an absolutely delicious addition to this sandwich.

How can I make this into grilled cheese sandwiches?
I would suggest using more of a sliced bread like sourdough bread or french bread. Butter the outside of the bread slices and then spread the fig jam on the inside of each slice of bread. Layer the rest of the ingredients 6-8 slices of apple, 3-4 slices of prosciutto and 3-4 thick slices of brie cheese and then top with the second slice of bread. Warm a frying pan over medium heat and place the sandwiches butter side down into the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and the cheese melts. If the bread is getting too dark, turn the heat down to medium-low heat.

Storage

Make this sandwich one day in advance and wrap tightly in plastic wrap or other sandwich wrapper. Store in the fridge for 1 day.
