It’s the season for gifting and I’m obsessed with this Cranberry-Pear Chia Seed Jam as a super simple gift idea!

Whether you need something to serve with a holiday breakfast or an easy hostess gift, this jam is simple to make and has the perfect seasonal flavours. The cranberries and orange zest give the jam a tart note and the pears and honey add sweetness.

Plus the chia seeds are somewhat magical and make this jam come together perfectly.

I have legitimately been eating this by the spoonful and using it as a topper to yogurt & granola, and baked brie cheese.

And, if you’re in the holiday spirit, use this as a new version of cranberry sauce with turkey!

Honestly, this Cranberry-Pear Chia Seed Jam is so versatile AND it freezes well too. So, you can make this ahead of time and just take it out when you need it.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups cranberries fresh or frozen works
  • 3 red anjou pears, chopped into 1/2 inch pieces leave the skin on the pears
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • pinch nutmeg
  • zest from half an orange
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds

Instructions

  1. Mix together the water, cranberries, chopped pears, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg and orange zest in a medium saucepan.

  2. Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Once the mixture is bubbling and cranberries are starting to pop, turn to medium-low and stir in the chia seeds.

  3. Cook stirring frequently until desired texture, about 15-20 minutes. Let the mixture cool.

  4. Once cool, store the jam in your fridge for 1-1.5 weeks or freeze for future use.

This Cranberry-Pear Chia Seed Jam also makes a lovely gift! I was able to fill 4 small mason jars with the jam and then add these cute little gift tags. Just make sure to store the jam in the fridge until you’re ready to gift.

Buying fresh herbs in the Winter & not sure how to Buying fresh herbs in the Winter & not sure how to store them to make sure they keep longer?! I’ve put together my top 4 tips for storing fresh herbs:⠀
⠀
-Soft herbs like parsley, basil, cilantro and dill have ‘soft’ stems so store them like you would fresh flowers. For parsley, cilantro and dill, cut about 1 inch off the stems, place in a jar with water, cover with a plastic produce or ziploc bag and store in the fridge. Keep in the fridge and replace the water every couple of days. These can last about 2 weeks so when ready to use, take the amount you need and wash!⠀
⠀
-Basil is a bit of a tricky one as it’s very delicate. If purchased from the grocery store, it’s likely grown in a greenhouse and comes already packaged. I usually leave this at room temperature and use it within a couple of days. If I’m cutting basil from the garden, I’m generally going to use it right away. However, you could follow the same instructions as the soft herbs BUT leave it in the water at room temperature.⠀
⠀
-Hard herbs like rosemary, thyme and sage store well when wrapped in a slightly damp paper towel, then wrapped in plastic and put in the fridge. They will last 1-2 weeks.⠀
Mint is technically a hard herb because of its stem, however, I’ve found I can store either way mentioned above and it still does well.⠀
⠀
-And, the best way to clean any herbs that you’re using is to get a bowl of cool water and dunk the herbs a couple of times so that any dirt sinks to the bottom. Refresh the bowl with clean water before moving on to another herb.⠀
