<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I&rsquo;m so ready for all the bright and fresh recipes to make in March!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" width="1067" height="1600" src="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/recipes-to-make-in-March-5193.jpg" alt="March recipe inspiration" class="wp-image-8079" srcset="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/recipes-to-make-in-March-5193.jpg 1067w, https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/recipes-to-make-in-March-5193-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/recipes-to-make-in-March-5193-187x280.jpg 187w, https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/recipes-to-make-in-March-5193-768x1152.jpg 768w, https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/recipes-to-make-in-March-5193-1024x1536.jpg 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1067px) 100vw, 1067px" data-pin-media="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/recipes-to-make-in-March-5193.jpg"></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I&rsquo;m still cooking one pan meals like this <a href="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/one-pot-boursin-pasta/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">One Pot Boursin Pasta</a> but trying to add in more fresh vegetables as they become available in grocery stores. We enjoyed adding some asparagus to that pasta recipe and it was delicious!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We&rsquo;ve been enjoying a roast chicken most Sundays for dinner which is a delicious way to meal prep too. We usually make a large batch of <a href="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/sheet-pan-roasted-carrots-brussels-sprouts-potatoes/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">roasted vegetables</a> so we can enjoy them with lunch during the week.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And, we can&rsquo;t forget we&rsquo;re getting into carrot season! Whether roasted, shredded for salads or <a href="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/coconut-carrot-cake-with-cream-cheese-frosting/" type="post" id="6954">in a dessert</a>, they are one of my favourite versatile vegetables.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What&rsquo;s In Season In March</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">More colourful produce is starting to make it&rsquo;s way back to the stores which is lovely to see. I love this time of year as we head out of Winter and (hopefully) into the warmer days of <a href="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/category/seasonal/spring/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Spring</a> ahead.</p>

<p>So let&rsquo;s chat all the recipes to make in March plus some of my best grocery budgeting tips!<span id="more-6874"></span></p>
<p>One thing I&rsquo;ve become very conscious of lately is our grocery bill. Have you noticed your bills getting pricier?</p>
<h3>Here are some of my best grocery budgeting tips</h3>
<ul>
<li>Buy in season. That&rsquo;s why I love to share my monthly <a href="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/category/whats-in-season/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">What&rsquo;s In Season</a> posts! Anything in the fruits and vegetables section plus frozen vegetables &amp; fruit too as they are generally frozen at peak freshness.</li>
<li>Substitute in some plant-based sources of protein like lentils or other beans. I like to make &lsquo;half-half&rsquo; recipes; for example, if a recipe requires 2lbs ground beef or ground turkey, I go with 1lb of the meat and substitute in lentils or beans for the other half. This strategy would work great with my <a href="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/simple-easy-turkey-tacos-recipe/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Simple &amp; Easy Turkey Tacos</a> recipe!</li>
<li>Buy in bulk where it makes sense. Does your family eat a lot of rice or quinoa? Get that big bag at the store, especially if it&rsquo;s on sale.</li>
</ul>

<p>I&rsquo;m so ready for warmer temperatures and cooking some of my favourite Spring recipes.</p>
<p>While it&rsquo;s a bit of a transition month for seasonal ingredients, I still have you covered with inspiration for recipes to make in March!<span id="more-5820"></span></p>
<p>Is Spring in the air where you are? We are having the most beautiful week of March weather which makes me want to make lighter, fresh meals.</p>
<p>Two of my go-to cookbooks for cooking seasonally are: <a href="https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/books/food52-a-new-way-to/9780399578007-item.html?ikwid=a+new+way+to+dinner&amp;ikwsec=Home&amp;ikwidx=0#algoliaQueryId=17c132cf669955302999a2cc8d3c9fa0" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Food 52&rsquo;s A New Way to Dinner</a> and <a href="https://www.chapters.indigo.ca/en-ca/books/date-night-in-more-than/9780762452460-item.html?ikwid=date+night+in&amp;ikwsec=Home&amp;ikwidx=1#algoliaQueryId=30ce26fbe3a52930445a725bd0d3fb20" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Date Night In</a>.</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-5784" src="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Easy-Healthy-Baked-Lemon-Chicken-7140.jpg" alt="Easy Healthy Baked Lemon Chicken" width="668" height="1002" srcset="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Easy-Healthy-Baked-Lemon-Chicken-7140.jpg 668w, https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Easy-Healthy-Baked-Lemon-Chicken-7140-200x300.jpg 200w, https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Easy-Healthy-Baked-Lemon-Chicken-7140-187x280.jpg 187w" sizes="(max-width: 668px) 100vw, 668px" data-pin-media="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Easy-Healthy-Baked-Lemon-Chicken-7140.jpg"></p>
<p>I love these books because they have a section for each season which brings constant inspiration in the kitchen. Plus, both books give you full menu options OR you can just make one dish from the list. It&rsquo;s really up to you!</p>
<p>We&rsquo;ve also been making my <a href="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/easy-healthy-baked-lemon-herb-chicken/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Easy &amp; Healthy Baked Lemon Chicken</a> on repeat lately. The lemon brings such a fresh flavour and this dish goes so well with delicious greens! You could even meal-prep the chicken and then use in salads for the week. So many options!</p>
<p>And speaking of salads we still have my <a href="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/winter-citrus-chopped-salad/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Citrus Chopped Salad</a> in our heavy dinner rotation; citrus season is STILL on so if you haven&rsquo;t enjoyed enough yet add some to your basket next time you&rsquo;re at the market.</p>
<p>What else is there to make this month? Here are some of my favourite recipes to make in March:</p>
<p><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-5832" src="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Recipes-to-make-in-March-from-cookinginmygenes.com4_.png" alt="Recipes to Make in March" width="1067" height="1600" srcset="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Recipes-to-make-in-March-from-cookinginmygenes.com4_.png 1067w, https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Recipes-to-make-in-March-from-cookinginmygenes.com4_-200x300.png 200w, https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Recipes-to-make-in-March-from-cookinginmygenes.com4_-683x1024.png 683w, https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Recipes-to-make-in-March-from-cookinginmygenes.com4_-187x280.png 187w, https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Recipes-to-make-in-March-from-cookinginmygenes.com4_-768x1152.png 768w, https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Recipes-to-make-in-March-from-cookinginmygenes.com4_-1024x1536.png 1024w" sizes="(max-width: 1067px) 100vw, 1067px" data-pin-media="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Recipes-to-make-in-March-from-cookinginmygenes.com4_.png"></p>

<p>And if you are looking for a delicious baking project for the weekend, my <a href="https://www.cookinginmygenes.com/perfect-weekend-morning/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Saskatoon Berry Lemon Scones</a> are THE most popular on the blog! If you don&rsquo;t have access to Saskatoon berries, try blueberries &ndash; they will be just as delicious.</p>

This last month we celebrate my husband and my birthdays so lets just say we ate A LOT of cake!</p>
<p>I made <a href="https://barefootcontessa.com/recipes/coconut-cake" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">this coconut cake</a> from Ina Garten which was absolutely divine, especially if you love coconut.&nbsp;And later in the month I made a Hazelnut Cake with Nutella Icing.</p>
<p>For my birthday dinner I made us oven-fried chicken sandwiches, a recipe I&rsquo;m testing for the blog and we cracked a lovely bottle of champagne! It was a very good day 🙂</p>
<p>I&rsquo;m still obsessed with <a href="https://www.halfbakedharvest.com/cookbook/half-baked-harvest-super-simple/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Half-Baked Harvest&rsquo;s Super Simple cookbook</a> so we&rsquo;ve been making many recipes from it. There is a parchment baked salmon with potatoes in the cookbook that we&rsquo;re loving; <a href="https://www.halfbakedharvest.com/parchment-baked-salmon/#bo-recipe" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">this salmon recipe</a> from the Half-Baked Harvest blog is pretty similar and just as good!</p>
<p>If you&rsquo;re looking for a delicious plant-based meal to try this next month, check out <a href="https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/pantry-pasta-with-vegan-cream-sauce?_ga=2.22474751.578817866.1582687546-322681661.1582687545" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Healthyish&rsquo;s Pantry Pasta with Vegan Cream Sauce</a>. Beans are used to make the creamy sauce and it&rsquo;s legit super tasty and easy! I&rsquo;m 100% keeping the ingredients in my pantry for when my pasta cravings strike.</p>
